Please review these rules in order to keep Desert Thunder Raceway a safe racing environment for all and follow these rules so that we all can have fun racing.

Track Rules

  • Consumption of Alcoholic beverages or Drugs by drivers or crew members is strictly prohibited.  Consumption of Alcohol by a minor is strictly prohibited.
  • Illegal narcotics or drugs are not tolerated.  If you are caught or suspected of using or having illegal narcotics or drugs the Sheriff will be notified.
  • If you feel that you have had too much to drink, please notify the Sheriffs or track personnel for a safe ride home.
  • Vandalism or fighting will result in being permanently barred from Desert Thunder Raceway.
  • No Glass bottles are allowed on Desert Thunder property.
  • All pit vehicles, pit bikes, scooters, ATV’s and other pit vehicles must display competition number and yield to race vehicles at all times.  You must have a valid driver’s license to operate any pit vehicle.  Keep speed below 5 mph.  Violators will be asked to leave.  Watch for children and pedestrians at all times!
  • Return road is for racers only, and speed will be kept to a minimum at all times.
  • Grudge races are allowed, BUT you must line up in the same staging lane one behind the other and notify staging operator.
  • Working tail lights are required at all times track lighting is on.
  • Pit arm bands are required in pit area, including drivers.
  • This is a family environment, please keep your language appropriate.  You will be asked to leave for use of inappropriate language.
  • We have Sheriff Deputies on premises for any problems that may arise.
  • Courtesy staging is in effect.  No deep staging!  The starter will back you up 1 time only if tree has not activated during time trials only.
  • All vehicles must have a tech sticker before participating.
  • Making your class call is your responsibility.
  • All complaints will be directed to tech official.  Anyone addressing complaints to starting line personnel may be disqualified.
  • Cheating is not allowed and will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Cars running 6.0 or faster must deploy a parachute.  If you don't deploy parachute and go into sand pit or farther, you will be disqualified.
  • Stay in your lane all the way to the end of the shutdown area.  Tower lane has right of way.  Return road is for racers only.
  • Passengers allowed during time trials only in cars or trucks slower than 9 sec 1/8 mile.  All passengers must be 12 or older,  meet safety requirements & have signed a release.
  • Driving recklessly on Desert Thunder Raceway property will not be tolerated.
  • If your car breaks during time trials or eliminations, no refunds or rainchecks will be given.

 

STREET CAR – 9.00 and slower 1/8 mile

DRIVELINE:  Drive shaft loop mandatory on any vehicle using racing slicks.

HELMET:    Recommended, SN 90 or newer mandatory on all entries running 8.59 1/8 mile or quicker.  Entries running 8.60 1/8 mile & slower, helmet is recommended

ROLL BAR:  Recommended

WINDOWS:  Required and rolled up.

TRANSMISSION:  Neutral safety switch required

 

SUPER STREET – 7.50 to 9.00 1/8 mile

DRIVELINE:  Drive shaft loop required on any vehicle which uses racing slicks.

HELMET:  SN 90 or newer mandatory.

ROLL BARR/ROLL CAGE:  Roll bar or roll cage is mandatory on all convertibles

WINDOWS:  Required and rolled up

 

RACE CAR – 6.50 to 7.49 1/8 mile.  ALL ABOVE PLUS

AXLES:  Aftermarket axles and axle retention device mandatory on entries running 6.99 and quicker 1/8 mile.

DRIVELINE:  1 DRIVE SHAFT LOOP MANDATORY.

Driver restraint:  Must meet SFI 16.1

FLEX PLATE/FLY WHEEL SHIELD:  Mandatory if vehicle exceeds 135 mph.

ROLL BAR:  Mandatory  /CAGE: required if car exceeds 135 mph

WINDOWS:  Required and rolled up.

 

 

QUICK CAR – 0 to 6.49 1/8 mile

Must meet all IHRA regulations as outlined in the Rule Book

Motorcycle and 4-Wheeler

HELMET:  Full coverage SN 90 or newer helmet

CLOTHING:  Leather or Kevlar Jacket; gloves; full length protective pants and appropriate footwear required

 

JR Dragster

HELMET: SN 90 or newer  –  ARM RESTRAINTS  –  NECK COLLAR

CLOTHING:  Jacket meeting SFI spec 3.2A-1 as well as full length pants, shoes, socks and gloves

RESTRAINT SYSTEM:  Five point, 1¾“ wide minimum driver restraint system mandatory.  (See IHRA Rule Book for specific details)

Low Buck Racing At Its Best

All NHRA and IHRA safety rules and regulations apply as per each track’s discretion

Track Requirements:

  1. Track sponsors $500.00 toward overall purse to be paid back to participants.

  2. No gate or entry fee will be charged for car or driver.

  3. Track will be responsible for calling cars to staging lanes and all announcements.

  4. All W. T. True Ten Five entries should be be directed to association official.

Participant Requirements:

  1. Participant will be responsible for being in staging lanes on time.

  2. Participant will be required to post a $200.00 fee for any protest against another driver or car. ($50.00 from each protest will go to W. T. True Ten Five to help pay for tech.)

  3. Participants will be responsible for pairing after time trials and lane assignments.  (All pairing will be done based on random drawing and lane choice by quick E.T.)

  4. Each participant is required to join the association prior to or at an event and pay an annual $50.00 membership fee.  (This fee is required as an entry fee to race and also gives voting privileges within the organization.)

Organizational Requirements:

  1. Organization will be responsible for all sponsorship and purse monies other than what is required of each racetrack.

  2. Organization will promote and advertise each track and sponsor on all available websites.

  3. Organization will be responsible for all payouts at the end of each event.

  4. The organization will collect all funds (association fees) at an event and this burden will not be put upon the track.

  5. A Quick Eight format for large purse.  All remaining cars will be paired for a smaller purse.

  6. Cars will be randomly weighed (4 cars at a time), with all event winners weighed after run.

Sponsors:  We welcome all sponsors (small and large) and must say that this type of heads-up racing draws the attention of the average spectator in a big way.  Whether it's $100.00, $300.00, $500.00, or $1,000.00, your advertising dollar will go a long way and be greatly appreciated.  Due to the cost of maintaining nitrous, turbo, and blower cars, our participants and every track owner wants to put on a good show and will greatly appreciate your help.
