INAUGURAL AHRA NITRO SHOWDOWN
EXPANDED TO TWO-DAY EVENT, MAY 15-16

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. (March 8, 2010) ­ The Inaugural AHRA Nitro Showdown at Desert Thunder Raceway in Midland, Texas has been expanded to two complete days of drag racing action, now scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16 because of extreme interest from sportsman competitors.

Saturday's racing will include the Nitro Showdown highlighted by 8,000 horsepower nitro methane-burning Top Fuel dragsters along with a duel of Jet Cars featuring 'Rolling Thunder' vs. 'Her-a-cane.' Sportsman racing will continue through Sunday for the more than the combined 250 competitors in the Pro, Super Pro, Motorcycle, Street and Jr. Dragster classes.

Pre-entry is strongly recommended for teams because of the high interest in competing at the event as well as limited pit space. Pre-registration forms, a run schedule and event details are available on the AHRA website at www.AHRAdragracing.com. Advance tickets are also available on the AHRA site for fans wanting to assure their seat for the main events.

The AHRA is a drag racing membership organization founded in 1956 to sanction racetracks and promote drag racing events throughout the United States and Canada. The company is headquartered in Spokane Valley, Wash., and has a divisional office in Panama City, Fla. The 2010 schedule is highlighted by several drag racing events including: the Reunion Tour, the U.S. Sportsmen Series, the Canadian Sportsmen Tour, and the AHRA U.S. Funny Car Championships. The AHRA's first ever Nitro Showdown will blast down the track on May 15 at Desert Thunder Raceway in Midland, Texas, featuring a one-day duel of Top Fuel Dragsters, fire-breathing Jet Cars and a Big Buck Sportsmen race.

The event marks the first of several Nitro Showdowns planned throughout the season, AHRA CEO Troy Moe said Friday.

“This is really exciting and something we’re planning on rolling out across the country. It’s a one-day event that features nitro-powered Top Fuel Dragsters and the raw fire-power of Jet Cars along with the excitement of local racers fighting to win their share of a substantial purse,” Moe said.

“Desert Thunder Raceway recently joined the AHRA family and we’re very pleased with the improvements they have made to the facility. Updated track prep, new LED lights on the tree and a lot of new programs for local racers.”

AHRA ANNOUNCED JR. DRAGSTER CHAMPIONSHIPS IN OCTOBER 2010

Emphasizing their commitment to building a strong Jr. Drag Racing program, the AHRA announced today that the AHRA Jr. Dragster Championships to be held October 2nd, 2010 at Desert Thunder Raceway in Midland, Texas.

The Jr. Dragster Championships will feature a limited open-entry, pre-registration format in multiple classes. Participation details will be released in the near future according to AHRA C.E.O. Troy Moe.

“Jr. Dragsters are the seed of all drag racing and the life-blood of our Sportsmen programs,” Moe said. “Our program is focused on developing safe racing habits for the drivers as well as providing a safe, wholesome, family-friendly environment for the participants.”

“We’re strongly committed to our Juniors, and are working to provide large incentives and awards for the drivers as well” , he said.
